The old cemeteries of Ladywell and Nunhead, in SE London were the resting place of the departed going back hundreds of years, and continue to be ‘working cemeteries’ today. But as natural places of peace and tranquility in the heart of a busy city they have been transformed by time with the growth of trees, plants and flowers into places that birds and wildlife have flourished. Volunteers and council gardeners work a happy balance between wilderness and cemetary, leaving some parts of the cemetary to nature and in other areas creating natural woodland paths to explore.

All of this creates a wonderful setting for walkers, cyclists, runners and artists to enjoy, amongst those paying their respects to departed friends and family.

All of which I think is worth documenting.
